Welfare & Safeguarding

Wey Kayak Club takes the welfare of our members, and all those involved in the club, very seriously. Safeguarding our members from harm is one of our top priorities. We believe everyone has a responsibility to promote the welfare of all children, young people and vulnerable adults to keep them safe and to practise in a way that protects them.

All members should show respect and understanding for the rights, safety and welfare of others, and conduct themselves in a way that reflects the Club Rules, Code of Conduct and Safeguarding Policy.

We have appointed Welfare Officers; Fay Lamph, Amanda Childerstone, Ben Webb and Emily Cartwright. Welfare Officers are the first point of contact for children, parents and adults within the club who have a safeguarding or welfare concern. An e-learning refresher course for coaches who have previously done face to face safeguarding courses through the club.

First aid

Although canoeing is a relatively safe sport, first aid is an essential skill for all paddlesport coaches and leaders to have. To support our safety-first efforts, the Club provide First Aid courses, free of charge, throughout the year. It is mandatory for all coaches to have up to date first aid awards and training.

First Aid kits are available in the clubhouse. These are kept well stocked, but if you are aware of any items om shortage please notify welfare_officer@weykayak.co.uk
