School Programmes

Get Active

Our school’s programme is a key part of our mission to give everyone the chance to get active, learn new skills and explore the waterways around them.  Wey Kayak Club has been delivering beginner kayaking sessions for schools and youth/community groups for more than 10 years and have welcomed over 1500 young people to our club.

We have developed long term relationships with several local primary schools, who return each year for either school time or after school activities for students in Year 5 upwards.  A number of these children have joined the club, going on to national and international success.

British Canoeing accredited coaches

All our sessions are run by fully qualified, friendly, and experienced British Canoeing accredited coaches and can be tailored to the needs of your group.  Our sessions are structured to develop students skills through experimental learning – developing confidence to respond to new challenges and environments. In addition to being fun and energetic, we ensure that our sessions complement Key Stage learning.  Within each of these areas, we encourage a range of soft skills including effective communication, motivation of team members and respect for peers.

We will always do our best to accommodate people with extra needs, our Canadian canoes and bell boats enable students to participate along with their friends or to be accompanied in a boat by their carers.

Subsidised rates

As part of commitment to local schools and community groups who help make a real difference to people’s lives we are delighted to offer subsidised rates to local state schools, charities and voluntary support groups.  Many utilise their School Sports Premium for these activities, which will make memories for life.

We are also able to offer kayaking or canoeing experience as a component of the Duke of Edinburgh Award program which is run by many secondary schools.

We would be pleased to visit your school or organisation to discuss the opportunities that the club can offer to your young people.  Please contact schools@weykayak.co.uk for more information.
